Pay Increase: Salary scales updated (1 August  2015)

Following the 2015 national pay negotiations, the annual pay uplift for non-clinical University staff has now been approved for implementation at Oxford.

For full details please refer to Personnel Services Revised Salary and Grading Structure: http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/personnel/reward/paystructure/. This is also available to download from the Personnel Services Circulars page.

The uplift is a 1% increase on salaries, save for the first five points of the University’s salary and grading structure where increases of 1.2% - 2% apply. The uplift is effective from 1 August 2015 and will be implemented in the January 2016 payroll.

Clinical academic and related salaries (with effect from 1 April 2015)

The 2015 salary arrangements for clinical academic and related staff have been approved on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee.

Clinical academic and related staff who were at the top of their pay spine on 31 March 2015 will receive a non-consolidated payment based on the following criteria:

  • If the member of staff reached the top of their scale between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2015 they will receive a 1% non-consolidated payment.
  • If the member of staff reached the top of their scale on or before 31 March 2014 they will receive a 2% non-consolidated payment.

The salary scales for clinical academic and related staff remain unchanged. Additional points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards also remain unchanged.

Further information is available in the circular on the Personnel Services website.

01/08/14

The Personnel and Planning and Resource Allocation Committees have approved the implementation at Oxford of the 2014 national uplift to the single pay spine for university non-clinical staff. For full details please refer to Personnel Services Revised Salary and Grading Structure, available in the right-hand menu of Personnel Services Reward page. This is also available to download from the Personnel Services Circulars page. The uplift is a 2 per cent increase on salaries with effect from 1 August 2014. The increase will be implemented in the August 2014 payroll.

30/01/13

The Personnel and Planning and Resource Allocation Committees have approved the implementation at Oxford of the 2012 national uplift to the single pay spine for university non-clinical staff. This is on the recommendation of the Universities and Colleges Employers Association following extensive national negotiations. The uplift is a 1 per cent increase for each full-time employee (pro rata for part-time staff) with retrospective effect from 1 August 2012. It will be implemented in the January 2013 payroll, together with backpay.

01/02/12
The national negotiations on the 2011 uplift to the single pay spine for university non-clinical staff have now concluded, and the implementation at Oxford of the outcome has been approved on behalf of the Personnel and Planning and Resources Allocation Committees. The 2011 national pay award of a consolidated £150 for all university non-clinical staff, back-dated with effect from 1 August 2011, will be implemented in the February 2012 payroll.

01/07/11
In line with the HM Treasury acceptance of the recommendation of the NHS Pay Review Body to freeze NHS staff pay for 2011/12 for all staff earning more than £21,000 per annum, UCEA have recommended that there be no change to the basic salary for consultant clinical academics or clinical academics below the level of consultant.

Salaries for consultant clinical academics and clinical academics below the level of consultant therefore remain unchanged from 2010 levels. Additional points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards also remain unchanged.

01/02/11
The national negotiations on the 2010 uplift to the single pay spine for university non-clinical staff have now concluded, and the implementation at Oxford of the outcome has been approved on behalf of the Personnel and Planning and Resources Allocation Committees. The 2010 national pay award of 0.4 per cent for all university non-clinical staff, back-dated with effect from 1 August 2010, will be implemented in the February 2011 payroll.

01/06/10
It has been agreed, on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee, to implement an increase of 1 per cent for clinical academics and related staff below the level of consultant, with effect from 1 April 2010. There will be no change to the basic salary for consultant clinical academics.

Discretionary points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards remain unchanged from 1 April 2009 rates.

These increases will be implemented in the June payroll, back-dated to 1 April 2010.

12/01/10
The national negotiations on the 2009 uplift to the single pay spine for university non-clinical staff have now concluded, and the implementation at Oxford of the outcome has been approved on behalf of the Personnel and Planning and Resources Allocation Committees. The 2009 national pay award of 0.5 per cent for all university non-clinical staff, back-dated with effect from 1 August 2009, will be implemented in the January 2010 payroll.

01/10/09
The USS employer's contribution has been raised to 16% from 1st October 2009.

01/06/09
It has been agreed, on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee, to implement an increase in clinical academic and related staff basic salaries of 1.5 per cent with effect from 1 April 2009.

Discretionary points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards have been similarly increased by 1.5 per cent with effect from 1 April 2009.

These increases will be implemented in the June payroll.

24/10/08
The national pay agreement for 2006-2009, which has been adopted by Council for implementation at Oxford, provided for five salary increases for non-clinical staff. The final stage, due with effect from 1 October 2008, is the greater of 2.5 per cent or the increase in the Retail Price Index (RPI) for the twelve months to September 2008. The October increase is therefore 5 per cent, and will be paid in the November payroll.

01/08/08
It has been agreed, on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee, to implement an increase in clinical academic and related staff basic salaries of 2.2 per cent with effect from 1 April 2008.

Discretionary points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards have been similarly increased by 2.2 per cent with effect from 1 April 2008.

These increases will be implemented in the July payroll.

01/05/08
In line with salary increases agreed as part of the national three-year pay agreement for 2006 - 2009, pay scales for university non-clinical support, academic and academic-related staff will be increased by the greater of three per cent or £420 with effect from 1 May 2008.

04/12/07
With effect from 1 November 2007, the second stage of the pay award for clinical psychologists was implemented at Oxford. The award involves a 1 per cent increase. The payroll office has made arrangements to implement the award in the December payroll.

08/11/07
With effect from 1 November 2007, pay scales for those staff opting to remain on 'Whitley Council' support staff grades until July 2011 have been increased by 1 per cent. These increases were implemented in the November 2007 payroll.

05/11/07
The second stage of the two stage pay award for clinical academic and related staff was implemented at Oxford from 01/11/07 for clinical professors, clinical readers and clinical researchers holding new consultant contracts, the whole award was implemented with effect from 1 April 2007. All other clinical academic and related grades received a staged award and therefore salaries increased with effect from 1 April 2007 and again with effect from 1 November 2007. The full-year increase in salaries is either £650 or £1,000 per annum, dependent upon grade. There has been no increase in discretionary points, distinction awards and clinical excellence awards, which remain unchanged from November 2006.

30/08/07
The Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee have approved, for implementation at Oxford, the first stage of a two stage pay award for clinical psychologists. The award involves an increase in salaries by 1.5 per cent with effect from 1 April 2007.

01/08/07
In line with salary increases agreed as part of the national three-year pay agreement for 2006-9, pay scales for university non-clinical support, academic and academic-related staff will be increased by 3% with effect from 1 August 2007.

04/06/07
It has been agreed on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee to implement at Oxford an increase in clinical academic and related salaries in line with the salary awards for 2007-8 decided by the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body. The award for some staff is staged with effect from 1 April and 1 November 2007. For others the whole award is payable with effect from 1 April 2007. The second stage of the award (where applicable) payable on 1 November 2007 will be confirmed in autumn 2007.

01/04/07
The first part of the 2007-8 pay award for university support staff employed on 'Whitley Council' scales was agreed, and its implementation at Oxford in the June 2007 payroll approved by the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee. The pay award provides for an increase of 1.5 per cent to salaries with effect from 1 April 2007. It is anticipated that most of the staff currently employed on 'Whitley Council' scales will move to the University's new salary and grading structure in July 2007. Further information regarding the assimilation exercise will be available in due course.

29/01/07
The second stage (1% increase) of the previously announced three year pay settlement for university non-clinical support, academic and academic related staff will be implemented from 1 February 2007.

19/07/06
A new local salary structure has been developed as a result of The National Framework Agreement in consultation with departments and staff representatives and will be implemented for relevant staff from 1 August 2006. The vast majority of staff will be transferring to the new Oxford salary structure, although a minority of staff will remain for a limited period on their existing grade and terms and conditions rather than transfer to the new structure.

With effect from 1 August 2006, pay scales for university non-clinical support, academic and academic-related staff will be increased by 3% or £515, whichever is the greater. These increases will be implemented in the September payroll and will be applied to staff on the new salary structure and those who have opted to remain on the old salary structure. No automatic increases will be applied to staff in these staff groups who are currently paid on off-scale points.

This salary increase is the first part of a national three-year offer for 2006-9 which has been accepted by all of the recognised trade unions and adopted by Council for implementation at Oxford. The pay settlement provides for salary increases as follows: August 2006 - greater of 3% or £515; February 2007 - 1 %; August 2007 - 3 %; May 2008 - greater of 3 % or £420; October 2008 - greater of 2.5 % or RPI (as at September 2008).

The 2006-7 pay award for clinical academic and related staff has been agreed and its implementation at Oxford in the June 2006 payroll has been approved on behalf of the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee. This pay award provides for an increase of an initial 1% for clinical consultants from 1 April 2006, and a further 1.2% from 1 November 2006, giving an average pay increase of 1.5% for clinical consultants for 2006-7. This pay award also provides for an increase of either 2.2% or 2.4% for all other clinical academic and academic-related staff with effect from 1 April 2006. Advice in relation to senior academic general practitioners who have opted to move to the new contractual arrangements will be circulated separately.

The 2006-7 pay award for university support staff employed on the Whitley Council administrative and clerical, technical (PTB), nurse and radiographer staff groups has now been agreed in its full and final form and its implementation at Oxford in the July 2006 payroll has been approved by the Personnel Committee and the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee. The pay award provides for an increase of 2.5% in total, backdated to 1 April 2006.

08/05/06
Pay scales for the University Wellcome Trust non-clinical fellows have been increased with effect from 1 August 2005, to reflect the increases agreed between the Universities and Colleges Employers Association and the nationally recognised trade unions for university staff for 2005-6. These increases will be implemented in the May 2006 payroll.
