Research Finance Management Improvements Programme (RFMIP)

Background

The Research Finance Management Improvements Programme (RFMIP) has its foundation in the Research Finance Management (Post Award) Service Review  which the University undertook in 2023/24. The service review looked at research finance management across the University. It covered the entire journey from finding funding, to setting up the contract, managing the project, auditing and closing it down. The review identified the following vision for the research finance management service:

"To support research excellence, now and for the future, through an effective, resilient and collaborative research finance management service."

Working with colleagues

RFMIP was set up in November 2024 for a two-year period and has a collaborative approach at its core. It is working in partnership with divisions and departments, as well as Research Services, Research Accounts and other central services, to gather input, improve processes and enhance information, guidance and training.

Working with other initiatives

RFMIP is one of several improvement programmes at the University, and has close links to the following other current programmes:

RFMIP recognises the need to align with both ORMS and PFST and is committed not only to helping to prepare the ground for them, but also to contributing to the desired outcomes, like culture change, stronger risk management and better ways of working.
